By arrow injuries in wars at certain points on the body, people had found by chance that certain other symptoms such as headaches or cervical spine pain disappeared. Other investigations found that the points had to be connected in someway. These pathways which connect points together like roads, were called meridians.
The origin of acupuncture dates back at least 2000 years in written records, and much earlier as there are stone needles going back 10,000 years and other methods as pricking, bleeding, burning and scarring were used to stimulate the points. Also jade and ivory needles as well as bamboo splinters were used before fine metal needles became common. We know that certain individuals are supersensitive and they can sense the movement of energy flows and more importantly changes to the quality of the energies as they flow through the body. In this way it is though that the meridian system and the acupuncture points where mapped over several thousands of years of careful observation. The meridian system, on which all real acupuncture is based, can be viewed as an electrical wiring system within the body. There are12 meridians all originating in an organ. There are 361 acupuncture points on the lines of energy. Which can be viewed as switches on this wiring system. By inserting a needle into the acupuncture point you turn the switch on, thus activating the energy at that point. More importantly each point is capable of subtly changing the nature and quality of the energy. This is the art of acupuncture, selecting different groups of points to treat different concerns in different individuals. The Chinese say it takes two lifetimes to truly learnt his art.
Acupuncture Berlin – Medical Profession and Science
The Medical profession had trouble accepting acupuncture, as it is based on this invisible energy system and not a physical structure within the body. However many scientific studies have validated the effects of acupuncture. Now it is widely accepted that acupuncture relaxes tight tense muscles, reduces pain and inflammation, increases local circulation, and stimulates cellular activity, thus increasing healing and slowing down degeneration. Also various blood tests have shown changes in the brain chemistry and the acupuncture also induces an alpha wave state which is similar to a deep meditative state.
Many scientific studies have shown that the acupuncture or the penetration of the needle into the skin is viewed as a foreign body, thus causing the body to release antibodies, endorphins, serotonin, dopamine and the number of red and white blood cells is raised. That explains why this treatment improves the general well-being, why it can alleviate insomnia, headaches, anxiety and depression as well as pain.
With the invention of thermal cameras it has been shown there is “visible” evidence as to the existence of meridians on the human body.
